it might be

We might actually, REALLY, be going to Ethiopia over Christmas.

Things like this always start so innocently, with mere curiosity. And then an email with questions, you know, just 'what if' to find out information. Then a response, and filling out an application. But still not really sure if we'd really 'really' go through with it. Then a phone interview. And being told we're accepted to the team.

I don't know when it'd be too late to pull out...but we seem to keep following down the path...and at some point, it will be too late to back out. We may really be going to do this.

I'm at our coffee shop right now. That song "Rock the Casbah" is playing. Everytime I hear this song I think about working on The Show and being in Morocco. My stint in Africa was so long ago and so brief and I was there for such shallow reasons, yet that whole summer is still so very vivid in my head. A tiny part of Africa got in my blood I guess.

And now we may be going back. And K would get to come with me. He's never had the experience of being to a place like that before. And there's nothing else like it.

Now that I'm able to let myself actually accept that this trip really may happen - I'm really, really excited about it.

I emailed my last donor recipient today. Told her that I wasn't going to do another cycle with her. It was a hard email to write. I stressed over it. I felt guilty about it. But I knew it was what I needed to do.

So I sent it. I felt very relieved, but very guilty that I felt relieved. But I am. It's a huge pressure taken away. My future is now my future again.

She emailed back. She was understanding. She didn't seem upset or angry. She said it would be ok.

And you know, I think it actually might be.

First-Year Teacher
