luke 2:19

I had some fascinating discussions today. I am amazed by the capacity of a mind. at that age. the ability to comprehend the depth of the things we talked about.

they are me then, but also me now. I will never comprehend the complexity of their life, but I share the same questions...even now, at age 25...

I revel in their discoveries, their opinions, and wonder what will change. I know what is out there, in the whole growing up world, and I'm both worried and excited to see where it takes them.

the questions came early for me, even earlier for them.

everything is grey. or is it gray? this has become our conclusion.

I don't know if this is appropriate for someone their age...but I don't really know how to know the age of a person who defies all age brackets anyways.

but that's the challenge I enjoy about this most.

I'm a guide on a path I'm traveling myself. only several steps ahead...of one who's already passed me in many ways.

I feel like a mother, counselor, big sister, and friend - though I am none of these...though in a way, I'm all.

I'm re-discovering my past, of thinking and knowing things I will not say. of knowing that things have to be seen and known a certain way, and respecting that certain way - and keeping my mouth shut.

I feel like Mary, keeping all these things and pondering them in my heart.*

I look at the world different, ask new questions...while pondering the same things. I wish I could explain this more, but I respect the way things are, and I worry I'm already walking the fence by saying these things.

*p.s. yes, this was a biblical reference. I'm not referring to baby jesus though, but to the feeling of holding things in...and pondering them.
